The 5 “Must to do” in Castelldefels

Villa Bella Estança is located in the small town of Castelldefels, just 20 kilometers south of Barcelona. Our city has grown a lot in the last two decades, both in population and area. It has improved a lot. It is always cared for, clean and very safe. Every change makes the lives of the people who live there easier. Life here is comfortable, just 20 minutes by car from the center of Barcelona, and with a direct train and bus connection, it means that many Barcelonans have lived in Castelldefels. It is a city with many green areas, local trade, supermarkets, and best of all, its beach. In this post we tell you a little more about this beautiful city and we present the 5 essentials to see when you spend a few days in Villa Bella Estança. Are you ready? Let’s start!

  1. The Beach

Castelldefels beach is one of the largest in Catalonia. Located between the Llobregat Delta and the Garraf massif, with more than 6 kilometers of fine sand, there is the beach of our town, divided into three, although you will not notice when one ends and the next begins: Platja de la Pineda, Platja de Lluminetes and Baixador. Its large surface, both in length and width, allows you to always find a place when you come, at any time, during all months of the year, including the busiest days of August. Its waters are usually calm, and its shallow depth makes it ideal for both small children and seniors, as even deep into the sea, everyone walks there, and you will not find any rock or stone. These features make it easier for both children’s playtimes and adult walks.
In addition, the three beaches of Castelldefels bear the Blue Flag, an indicator of tourist quality and safety. There are showers, toilets, bars and bicycle parking, as well as a lifeguard service, wooden walkways that allow easy access for people with reduced mobility, swings for the little ones, and conditioned areas for sports.

  1. The Castle

Dated to the year 967, with the original name of Castell de Fels, which later gave its name to our city, it describes what the land where the town is now: fertile. Historians relate the word “fels” to Felix, which means fertile, and this is what they thought when the conquerors came to this land. Located on a hill in the heart of the city at 60 meters above sea level, it is characterized by its strategic location, with control over the sea and the Garraf mountain range.
Today you can enjoy visits inside and a myriad of cultural activities scheduled throughout the year by the City Council.

  1. The promenade

The promenade of our city, like the beach, is characterized by its length. With more than 6 kilometers of cement, it is ideal for enjoying it as a family, doing sports, walking or just going out to watch the sunrise and sunset over the sea. The dunes that preside over Castelldefels beach are essential to maintain the ecosystem of the beach area. Five years ago, the successful maintenance project of the two began to revive the vegetation and thus allow the sand not to end up in the nearest streets on windy days. When you go for a walk you will find two picturesque facilities. The first is the XXL wooden bench located just over a 5-minute walk from Villa Bella Estança. And the second is the sculpture “Dar y tomar”, made by Lorenzo Quinn and donated to the city in 2013. You will find it on foot for 30 minutes, by bike at only 10. It is worth going to see it, especially when the sun sets inside.

  1. Restaurants

As we explained in a previous post (click here to read it), Castelldefels has a very extensive gastronomic offer. We encourage you to try the best fish and rice dishes, original burgers and pizzas, Italian, Argentinean, Uruguayan and Japanese food, have a drink on the sand in their bars and make a good vermouth any day of the year.

  1. Ànec Blau

Opened more than 15 years ago, and with constant renovation to make your visit as comfortable as possible, Ànec Blau, the city’s Shopping Center is ready for you. Open 7 days a week from 9am to 10pm, it offers a wide range of shops, facilities and services for the whole family. You can enjoy top quality cinemas and a complete gastronomic offer. Don’t miss its large terrace, full of entertainment for the little ones. And enjoy its free parking.

And for us, these are the 5 essentials for you and your family when you spend a few days in the city of Castelldefels. Have you visited any of these places? And if so, what did you think?
